Elderly woman killed in Portland-area pedestrian accident

Portland police are continuing to investigate a car accident that injured an elderly woman in Lake Oswego. The pedestrian accident involved one car and one pedestrian and happened on May 2.

An 85-year-old woman was crossing the street just south of Overlook Drive when she was hit. The driver who struck the pedestrian was said to be driving slower than the marked 40 mph speed limit on that road. Police report that the victim was not in the crosswalk at the time of the crash. However, she may have thought that she was in a lined crosswalk due to markings on the roadway that have been installed for traffic data collection, witnesses suggested.

Car accident seriously injures motorcyclist in Douglas County

Oregon police say serious injuries resulted from a two-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on a recent afternoon in Douglas County. Reportedly, a car on Oregon Highway 138 attempted to make a left turn off of the highway, crossing into the path of an oncoming motorcycle. A nearly head-on car accident resulted, seriously injuring the cyclist, who was wearing a safety helmet. He was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. The car driver suffered minor injuries.

After the incident, the car driver was cited for making a dangerous left turn. It is unclear if police have completed their investigation of this serious car accident. Once their work is complete, the official report will likely address the facts and circumstances surrounding the car accident and may indicate officially who was at fault in causing the collision.

Portland pedestrian accident leads to injury for one man

Running across busy Portland-area roads can be dangerous for pedestrians. Cars that are traveling at high rates of speed on crowded streets may not see the pedestrian until it is too late. When a pedestrian accident happens, it is rare for the pedestrian to escape unscathed.

The Traffic Division Major Crash Team is investigating a pedestrian accident that happened in Portland on April 23. The early morning collision came on 82nd Avenue at Northeast Wasco. Early reports state that the car was traveling on 82nd above I-84 when it struck the pedestrian in the southbound lane. While the dog was able to run away from the accident, three humans were not as fortunate, suffering injuries in the collision.

Local firefighters responded to a car accident at Southeast 96th Avenue and Southwest Market Street in Portland on the afternoon of April 16. The two-car accident involved a Toyota Prius and another vehicle. The Prius ended up on its side when it came to a rest after the collision.

Tax day can lead to car accidents in Oregon and across the country

Many people in Portland would agree that no one likes to file taxes. Each year around mid April, Americans are required to file state and federal tax returns. Understandably, this can be stressful for many. According to a recent study, it can also be dangerous and lead to injuries from motor vehicle collisions.

A professor at a major university has compared accident statistics for tax day with those for the same weekday a week before and after the tax due date. Each year over a span of 30 years, the study concluded that the number of deaths and people suffering injuries increased notably on tax day. In fact, the study suggests that roughly 13 more people die each year in car accidents on tax day.

Injuries result from Oregon man's illegal U-turn attempt

Making a U-turn on busy local roads can sometimes surprise other motorists on the road. When this happens, sometimes a crash cannot be avoided. Injuries and damages may result from this driver behavior.

Oregon police report that a car accident occurred recently, just north of Aurora. The car accident involved two cars and resulted in injuries to at least two people. After the mid-afternoon accident, the two accident victims were brought to different hospitals to receive care for their injuries.

Car accident claims 2 lives, injures another near Bend

Driving near the scenic Oregon resort towns of Bend and Sisters, two men reportedly died in a two-car accident on March 17. Police report that a 62-year-old man and his 59-year-old wife were driving on Highway 20W when their Subaru was struck head-on by a Nissan Sentra after it crossed the centerline. Witnesses reported to authorities that just prior to the accident the 33-year-old Nissan driver was seen driving erratically. Both men died at the scene of the car accident.

The injured wife was taken to a hospital in Bend with critical injuries. She is left fighting for her life while she and her family mourn the loss of her husband and hope for her full recovery. The family will likely be interested in the official accident investigation and its published report. They may wish to make use of Oregon's personal injury laws to press claims on behalf of the deceased husband as well as the injured wife.

Portland pedestrians hurt when taxi collides with storefront

Portland has long been known for its pedestrian-friendly downtown. Sidewalks and parks dot the landscape. However, those friendly sidewalks can become dangerous when a car accident spills over onto them and pedestrians get hurt.

Police say that two women were injured as they walked down a sidewalk in Portland on March 7. Reportedly, a taxicab ran the red light at the corner of Southwest 10th and Morrison, though the cab driver adamantly insists it was his taxi that was struck by a Honda. Nevertheless, authorities say the taxi collided with a BMW, and the impact caused the taxi to careen out of control toward the sidewalk. Unfortunately, two women were walking nearby and were struck by the taxi as it crashed into a local storefront.
